"I grew up in Barbados living next to the beautiful Caribbean Sea. As a child I surfed, sailed and snorkelled on the pristine reef. Saltwater now flows in my veins.
I’ve lived in the UK since the late 70’s plus a couple of years in Australia. It saddens me deeply to see what is happening to the natural environment. The adverse impact of plastic is one of the most evident consequences of our failure to recognise the part that humans play as occupants of the planet.
I met Claire and Jake at a Surfers Against Sewage event in the Houses of Parliament, was impressed what they had already achieved and the approach they are taking. In particular, I believe that a respectful, collaborative approach is a more sustainable style of campaigning than one of effrontery. I live in the Midlands which restricts my opportunities to get involved in activities like beach cleans so when the chance came up to become an Ambassador it was the perfect chance to make a direct impact on the plastics pollution issue.
